Federal revenue set records again in September, with a real increase of 4.07% in the month over the same period last year, also reaching the highest level in the series for the accumulated result for the year, with greater gains in taxes from financial entities and companies linked to oil exploration, announced the Federal Revenue on Tuesday (25).

The federal government’s collections reached R$ 166.2 billion in September, the best result for the month of the historical series of the Revenue adjusted for inflation, started in 1995.

The collection managed by the Internal Revenue Service, which includes the collection of taxes within the competence of the Union, grew 2.65% in real terms in September, to R$ 159.6 billion. Those administered by other bodies, with a large weight of royalties on oil exploration, rose 54.98%, to R$ 6.6 billion.

The sectors of the economy in which the collection grew the most in the month were financial entities, with an increase of 16.89% over September last year, to R$ 16.3 billion; and oil and gas extraction (+167.11%, at R$1.3 billion) — whose international prices are high in the face of the Ukraine war.

Revenue also highlighted the increase of 86.41% in the collection of Income Tax on capital gains, which totaled R$ 6.7 billion, mainly driven by the collection of investments in fixed income and funds, whose profitability has increased amid the raising the basic interest rate.

The tax authorities also highlighted the growth of 9.85% in the collection of Corporate Income Tax and Social Contribution on Net Income, reaching R$ 28.4 billion in the month.

The growth in collection took place despite the exemptions promoted by the government in the IPI and PIS-Cofins on fuel, which together had a negative impact of R$ 5.7 billion on the month’s revenues, according to the tax authorities.

In the accumulated period from January to September, the real growth in collection was 9.52%, to R$ 1.63 trillion, also with the strongest performance for the period of the entire historical series.

Earnings from royalties in the nine months of the year total R$ 75 billion, an increase of 28.7% above inflation.

According to the Revenue, the main factor contributing to the performance of collection is the behavior of economic indicators, which are on an upward trajectory.
