Justice sets a fine of R$ 100 thousand if Beto Carrero makes political propaganda

by

After publicizing a promotion to encourage PT voters not to vote in the second round of elections, the Beto Carrero World theme park was banned by the TRE-SC (Regional Electoral Court of Santa Catarina) from carrying out electoral propaganda, under penalty of a fine of R$ 100k per post.

On Tuesday (25), the park made a post on social media in which it offered a 25% discount on admission to those who were dressed in green and yellow until October 31. The colors of the national flag have been associated with support for the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), candidate for reelection.

After complaints from several netizens, the theme park mocked supporters of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and offered the same discount to anyone wearing red, but only on the day and time of the second round of voting.

“For those who complained about the green and yellow promotion, the Para Todos passport has arrived! Enough of the fight… invite your PT friend and have fun all day with him! before 8 am and leave after 5 pm”, reads the text on the social network.

With the negative repercussion, which included the campaign of former President Lula (PT) presenting a crime news to the Attorney General’s Office asking that Beto Carrero World be investigated for electoral crime, the park released a note on Thursday (27) in which he “apologises for the misunderstanding” and says the episode was a “joke”.

“In the first post, it is possible to observe that the represented [Beto Carrero World] would have extended the 25% discount on the price of its service, until 10/31, for those wearing green and yellow clothing, without any restrictions. It so happens that the second post, with a clear electoral content, including the highlighting of the letters P and T (For All), grants a 25% discount for those who wear red clothes, requiring consumers to enter the park before 8 am and leave. after 5 pm, which is a clear attempt to keep voters away from the electoral process, thus encouraging abstention”, says the decision of the auxiliary judge of TRE-SC, Sebastião Muniz.
