Panel SA: Friend of Lula, president of Qsaúde bets on politician to command economy

by

Businessman José Seripieri Junior, a friend of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), says that PT will put a political name he fully trusts in charge of the economy. The team will also involve economists linked to the liberals, who supported Lula’s return to the federal government and expect a management from the center.

Founder of Qualicorp and president of Qsaúde, Seripieri says that Lula chose to carry out a “down to earth” campaign, without naming ministers before the official results of the polls this Sunday (30), although polls of voting intentions indicated the need for this indication for him to win the support of the business community.

“Now he will rest and, with less pressure and more responsibility, he will sit down with the political forces and define the way forward”, said the businessman.

During the elections, Seripieri participated in several meetings between Lula and the business community and says that he has never heard a name from Lula to compose the Ministry of Economy.

However, Seripieri believes that the president will surround himself with good economists, repeating what Fernando Henrique Cardoso did when he took over the Brazilian economy during the Itamar Franco government (1992-1994).

“Talking about super-liberalism in a country where people either have lunch or dinner is not correct,” said the businessman.

For him, there is no way to carry out a model for the economy that is totally liberal. It will be necessary to mix assistance.

Last Thursday (27), the final stretch of the campaign, the president of Qsaúde donated R$500,000 to Lula’s campaign.

According to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), the businessman transferred R$ 1.8 million divided between Lula, the PT and PSD directors and Thainara Faria (PT), elected state deputy in São Paulo.
