CNT calls for action by the Federal Police and seizure of trucks

The CNT (National Confederation of Transport) asked the STF (Federal Supreme Court) this Tuesday (1st) that the PF (Federal Police) identify the “leaders and main owners” of the vehicles used in the interdiction of highways.

The suspicion is of the participation of businessmen in the organization of the coup-type protests that contest the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

This Monday (31), Minister Alexandre de Moraes ordered the PRF (Federal Highway Police) and the Military Police to identify the trucks and apply a fine of R$ 100,000 per hour. The CNT argues that the PF’s actions can make Moraes’ decision more effective.

The confederation also wants the minister to authorize the police to seize the vehicles because “they are serving as an instrument of crime against the democratic rule of law”. Finally, the entity requires that the companies identified in the organization of the blocks have their garages sealed.

“The measures to be adopted must focus on restoring public order, overcoming the omissions of public authorities and holding those who act against Brazilian democracy accountable,” the entity wrote in the request sent to the Supreme Court.

Moraes’ preliminary decision was evaluated by the virtual plenary of the STF and confirmed by most ministers minutes later, at dawn. This Tuesday, the minister said that military police officers can act “regardless of place”, including on federal highways.

After the decision, governors of at least six states determined the release of the roads. The blockades already affect the meat and milk sector, in addition to the supply of supermarkets and gas stations.

This Monday, the CNT stated in a statement that it is against “this type of intervention” on highways and that it respects the right of every citizen to demonstrate, as long as it does not harm people’s right to come and go.

“In addition to economic upheavals, stoppages create difficulties for people to move, including the sick, in addition to making it difficult for the population to transport essential products, such as food, medicines and fuel,” he said.

“In this sense, the CNT is convinced that the authorities will ensure the safe movement of people and goods throughout the country, understanding that any type of blockage does not contribute to the activities of the transport sector and, consequently, to the development of Brazil. .”
