Former minister Aloizio Mercadante —who was responsible for drawing up the PT government program— will be the technical coordinator of the transition team of president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). The coordination of the transition team was announced on Tuesday morning (1st).
Under the general coordination of the vice president-elect, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), Mercadante will carry out a programmatic technical survey before appointing thematic coordinators.
The national president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), will be in charge of political articulation. She will be responsible, for example, for negotiating changes to the 2023 Budget so that priorities for the first year of the Lula government are incorporated.
Members of Lula’s team fear they will encounter resistance from the Bolsonaro government to provide data for this diagnosis. Therefore, they must request officials from the ministries, which is permitted by law, to obtain this information.
Lula’s collaborators emphasize that the nomination for the transition should not be confused with the choice of ministers or for other positions in the Esplanada dos Ministérios.
Lula met this Tuesday morning with Alckmin, Mercadante and Gleisi to discuss the structure of this transition team, which, by law, must be composed of 51 people, in addition to the required civil servants.
The president-elect also met with former minister Fernando Haddad, to whom he asked for help in nominating the names for the coordination of education.
