Fenatran returns after three years and exhibits less polluting trucks

Fenatran, the main fair in the cargo transport sector, returns after an interval of three years. The 2021 edition was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event, which begins this Monday (7th) at São Paulo Expo (south of São Paulo), will be the first major meeting between truck manufacturers and the largest transporters in the country after Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is again elected Brazilian President.

Although part of this business community has shown support for President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the organizers expect that political issues will not interfere with business. Revenues of R$9 billion are expected, which would represent a growth of 5.9% compared to 2019.

“We had a lot of demand, we closed spaces in advance. Business fairs are coming back with everything”, says Ana Paula Pinto, manager of Fenatran. The expectation is to receive 65 thousand visitors at the event, which ends on Saturday (11).

Traditionally, representatives of the Presidency of the Republic and the government of São Paulo attend the opening ceremony, but the presence of Jair Bolsonaro is not confirmed. The president was also absent from the 2019 edition.

“The authority who is at the ceremony will be honored and will have their space to speak. We are inviting and, regardless of who attends, we will receive very well”, says the fair’s manager.

In addition to road transport, urban delivery services will be in the focus of exhibitors. Ford will show new versions of the Transit van – including the electric option, which is starting to be tested by potential customers. The model is produced in Turkey and will be sold in Brazil, but there is still no date for the start of commercialization.

Diesel-powered versions of the American brand utility will also receive a 10-speed automatic transmission, an old demand from entrepreneurs in the delivery sector.

But the great highlights of Fenatran are the large diesel trucks, which arrive at the event packed with good sales in recent years. According to data from Fenabrave (an association that represents vehicle distributors), the segments of heavy and semi-heavy models represent about 80% of license plates in 2022 (January to October).

The stands will be full of models suitable for the Euro 6 standard for controlling pollutants and carbon dioxide, adopted in Europe in 2016. The standard is the eighth phase of Proconve (Program for Control of Air Pollution by Motor Vehicles).

“Diesel will be the energy matrix for many years, there is no way to talk about solutions using only electrification”, says Marcelo Gallao, Scania’s business director. The automaker presents its new generation of engines, which promises a reduction of up to 8% in consumption. There are also options powered by CNG (vehicle natural gas) or biomethane.

Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus talks about a 5% decrease in fuel consumption. The Meteor, the largest model produced by the brand, will be exposed with changes in the cabin, which receives the new 10-inch digital panel. The power of the 13-liter MAN engine reaches 530 hp.

The automaker will also present the evolution of the 100% electric e-Delivery truck, intended for use in urban centers. There were slight changes to the design and a 10% increase in carrying capacity.

The systems companies FPT, from the Iveco group, and ZF will also exhibit their technologies aimed at electrification. These are axles, generators and batteries that can be adapted to models previously equipped with combustion engines.
