Elon Musk ends remote work on Twitter, says agency

by

Elon Musk, in his first email to Twitter employees, said remote work will no longer be allowed and that they will be expected in the office for at least 40 hours a week, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.

The billionaire also told employees he wants subscriptions to make up half of the company’s revenue, the report said, citing the email.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Musk, who completed the purchase of Twitter two weeks ago, laid off half his employees and several top executives and announced a series of actions, including charging $8 for a subscription to Twitter Blue on Wednesday. This was revoked the same day by him, who stated: “Please keep in mind that Twitter will be doing a lot of dumb things in the coming months,” the billionaire wrote. “Let’s keep what works and change what doesn’t.”

When the company reopened offices in March, it said employees could work from home on an optional basis.

The CEO’s decision reflects the policies of his other companies, SpaceX and Tesla, where employees must work in the office for at least 40 hours a week.
