Greek exports also reached record levels in September 2021, according to an announcement by SEVE. The performance in the 9 months of 2021 surpassed all previous ones, as they were increased by 6.2 billion euros compared to the 9 months of 2020 and by 3.3 billion euros compared to the 9 months of 2019, covering on the one hand the losses caused due to the spread of the pandemic and on the other hand far exceeding the performance of 2019, a year which was a milestone due to high performance.

According to SEVE, the above and in combination with the equally significant increase in exports without petroleum products (3.4 billion euros, ie 19.2%), prove that we are heading towards a record performance of all time in 2021 and that Business extroversion can – and should – be the focus of recovery in the post-coronavirus era.

Further analyzing the data announced today by the Hellenic Statistical Authority and processed by the Institute of Export Research and Studies (IEES) of SEVE, Greek exports amounted to 3,696.3 million euros in September 2021, compared to 2,581.5 million euros in September 2020 and 2,860.1 million euros in September 2019, with the differences amounting to 1,114.8 million euros (ie 43.2%) and 836.2 million euros (ie 29.2%) respectively . Imports were also increased by 1,574.4 million euros (ie 37.2%) compared to September 2020, resulting in 5,807.5 million euros. The above resulted in the widening of the trade deficit by 459 , 6 million euros and its configuration in the amount of 2,111.2 million euros

The picture of our trade in goods without petroleum products is similar, as exports increased by 475.7 million euros, ie 22.9% and amounted to 2,551.3 million euros, compared to 2,075.6 million euros in September 2020. and € 1,920.3 million in September 2019. Imports increased by 658.2 million, ie 17.9% and amounted to 4,332.1 million euros in September 2021 against 3,673.9 million euros in 2020 and 3,539.4 million euros in 2019. The oil-free trade balance was in deficit by 1,780.8 million euros compared to a deficit of 1,598.3 million euros in 2020 and 1,619.1 million euros in 2019.

Examining our performance in the period January-September 2021, there is a significant increase in exports both compared to 2020 (6,239.0 million, euros or 27.9%) and 2019 (3,323.6 million, euros, ie 13.1%), as a result of which they amounted to the amount of 28,637.9 million, euros which is also a record performance. However, this increase is partially overshadowed by the equally large increase in imports by 9,150.8 million, ie 25.3% compared to the 9 months of 2020, as they amounted to 45,345.6 million euros in the first 9 months of 2021 resulting in the commercial deficit to jump to 16,707.7 million euros If we take petroleum products out of the function, the trade deficit moved to the levels of 2019 and specifically to 13,622.6 million euros, with exports amounting to 20,875.9 million euros (increase 19.2% compared to 2020) and imports to 34,498.5 million euros (increase of 18.1% compared to 2020).

Exports of all sub-sectors, as categorized according to the Standardized Classification of International Trade (SITC), moved upwards. Analytically, an increase in exports was recorded by industrial (904.1 million, euros ie 25.1%), food (390.6 million euros, ie 9.9%), chemicals (587.9 million euros, ie 16.2%), machinery (EUR 471.7 million, ie 20.4%), various industrial products (EUR 357.6 million, ie 20.2%), raw materials (377, EUR 0 million (ie 45.5%), beverages and tobacco (EUR 95.3 million, ie 15.8%), fats and oils (EUR 146.8 million, ie 36.4%) and unclassified products (EUR 33.8 million, ie 10.1%).
