Panel SA: Project that turns online gaming into an industry gains strength in the Senate

by

The new video game industry milestone has gained momentum and is expected to be voted on by the Senate this week, according to industry representatives. Although the country emerges as one of the biggest markets for games and software development, the business is overtaxed for being considered “bad luck” entertainment, like the slot machines.

With the eventual approval of the text, the development of electronic games will be considered technological research and innovation, and companies will be able to enjoy tax benefits.

The Brazilian Association of Fantasy Sports (ABFS) estimates that the measure will allow the creation of 5,000 direct and indirect jobs by the end of 2023 only in the “fantasy” segment – a type of online game in which participants cast imaginary or virtual teams of real players of a professional sport.

Revenue from the game should double by 2026, reaching R$120 million, which will place the country as the third largest market in this segment, behind the USA and India.

In the era of digital advertising, via cell phone and internet, the marketing company Cadastra, announced this week the purchase of the British agency Digital Ethos.

The values were not revealed. Cadastra, however, reports having made the acquisition due to the “exponential” growth of Digital Ethos with its content production, public relations and SEO services (practices that make the site more attractive to search engines such as Google).

This is the second acquisition in the year by Cadastra, which had already snapped up the ecommerce company M3 in October, following the guidance of its parent company, DBG&Co, to double in size by 2025.
