Moraes orders to block accounts of suspects of acting in anti-democratic acts

by

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, ordered the blocking of accounts linked to 43 people and companies suspected of involvement with anti-democratic acts carried out in some cities in the country questioning the result of the elections.

The decision is confidential. The Federal Police will have ten days to take statements from the targets.

Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) charge the Armed Forces to promote a coup that prevents the inauguration of President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Bolsonaro had an unprecedented defeat for a president who was running for re-election in the country.

The president of the STF (Federal Supreme Court), Minister Rosa Weber, said this Wednesday (16) that freedom of expression does not “support aggression and demonstrations that incite hatred and violence, including moral violence.”

Rosa’s speech comes shortly after episodes in which STF ministers were harassed by Bolsonarist protesters in New York. Five members of the court participated in an event in the American city promoted by Lide, a family group of former São Paulo governor João Doria.

The group of Bolsonaristas held acts in front of the hotel where the ministers were staying and in the vicinity of the event venue. The magistrates were cursed and needed an escort.

The main target of Bolsonarists was Moraes, who also chairs the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). But ministers Gilmar Mendes, Ricardo Lewandowski and Luís Roberto Barroso were also harassed.
