Research by the Brazilian website Reclame Aqui, on the morning of this Friday (25th) of Black Friday, pointed out that 77% of consumers had not yet made their purchases taking advantage of the date.
Of these, the majority (56%) still intend to buy, but are facing a problem already expressed in memes on social networks: lack of real promotion.
According to the survey, 47% of respondents said they did not find good discounts, while 16% said that this Black Friday is more expensive than last year’s event. For 20%, however, prices are within expectations and 17% found good discounts for what they were looking for.
The survey carried out until noon this Friday heard 1,000 users of Reclame Aqui.
For the complaints website, the fact that more than three-quarters of consumers (77%) had still not made their purchases until this Friday morning (considering that the turn from Thursday to Friday concentrates most purchases) – but that most of the half of them (56%) still intend to take advantage of the date – it indicates a planning and research behavior, without impulse purchases.
Among those who bought, there are two extremes, according to the website: 43% spent between R$100 and R$500 on products such as T-shirts, pants, shoes, perfumery and sneakers, for example. At the other end, 36% spent more than R$1,000 on items such as smartphones and TVs.
The vast majority (85%) are shopping online. In the virtual environment, some consumers are shopping on social networks (5.5%) and live commerce (2.7%). Physical stores received only 6.6% of the buyers in the sample.

Surprisingly, the majority (57%) are not anticipating Christmas shopping and will wait to buy further down the line.
In the opinion of Fabio Carneiro, president of Promobit – a site that aggregates tips on ecommerce offers– Black Friday is being very different from expectations. “Some more desired categories such as TVs, notebooks and smartphones, did not have such aggressive discounts and disappointed users a little”, he said. “There were discounts, but nothing surreal or out of the curve.”
Even the games category, which presented a very aggressive average of discounts, was not as good as it could be, says Carneiro. The discounts didn’t come from the hottest games or next-gen consoles.
