2023 will be the year of pickup trucks, and GM takes the lead. The automaker revealed this Thursday (1st) the new generation of Chevrolet Montana, which hits stores in February.

The model, which will be equipped with a 1.2-litre turbo flex engine (133 hp) and a double cabin, fits into a new segment, still lacking in options. In size, power and skills, the closest rivals are Renault Oroch Outsider (R$ 145.7 thousand) and Fiat Toro Freedom (R$ 155.1 thousand). Both feature a 1.3 turbo flex engine, but with different designs.

Montana’s dimensions confirm the proposal to position itself as an option to medium sedans and compact SUVs. It is 4.72 meters long, with a bucket capable of carrying 874 liters of luggage. The automaker defines the cargo space as a “giant trunk”.

Two versions are available for pre-order, LTZ and Premier —which cost R$134,500 and R$140,500, respectively. There will also be an entry option, which should be called LT, following the nomenclature of other Chevrolet models in Brazil.

Among the standard items on the new truck, there are six airbags, blind spot warning, LED headlights, digital air conditioning, power steering and wireless smartphone charger, among other equipment.

The MyLink multimedia center has an eight-inch screen and allows connection via Wi-Fi. It is also possible to control various functions of the car through the app.

Another novelty among pickup trucks that debuts in early 2023 is the hybrid version of the Ford Maverick. The model is equipped with a 2.5 liter gasoline engine, which works together with the electricity system. The strong point is the low consumption, close to 18 km/l in the city according to measurements taken in the USA.

The combined power is 193 hp, according to the automaker. Sales will start in March, and the price has not yet been announced. The 2.0 turbo version (253 hp) currently sold costs from BRL 240,500.

In addition to the Maverick Hybrid, Ford is preparing to launch the large F-150 pickup truck. The model will have a GM competitor, Chevrolet Silverado, also confirmed for 2023.

In the Stellantis group, the novelties will be the new mid-size option by Fiat –which will be an Italian version of the Peugeot Landtrek– and a new option in the RAM line, positioned below the giants Classic, 1500 and 2500.
