Petrobras reduces the price of cooking gas by 9.8%

Petrobras announced this Wednesday (7) that it reduced the price of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) by 9.8%, known as cooking gas. The cut takes effect at the company’s refineries this Thursday (8).

With the measure, the average sale value for distributors goes from R$ 3.58 per kilo to R$ 3.23 per kilo. Considering a 13 kg cylinder, the average reduction is R$ 4.55, for R$ 42.04 in total.

The transfer to the final consumer depends on the commercial policies of distributors and resellers.

According to Petrobras, the reduction accompanies the evolution of reference prices and is consistent with its pricing practices.

In fact, data from the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels) indicate that the state-owned company had been selling the product at values ​​higher than the import parity, a concept that simulates how much it would cost to import the fuel.

In the first week of December, calculates the ANP, the import parity price of a 13-kilogram cylinder through the port of Santos was R$ 39.41, while Petrobras sold the same volume, on average, for R$ 46, 59.

On Tuesday, Brent oil, an international benchmark traded in London, closed below US$ 80 per barrel for the first time since January, putting downward pressure on fuel prices.

It is the second price cut announced by the state-owned company this week. On Tuesday (6), the company reduced the prices of gasoline and diesel by 6.1% and 8.2%, respectively.

The two products had been without adjustments for weeks, which led the state-owned company to spend a long period operating with lags in relation to international quotations.

LPG had its price reduced for the last time on November 17, with a cut of 5.3%.

The rise in prices at the beginning of the year held back fuel consumption, which has a large weight in the budget of low-income families.

In July, for example, fuel sales reached the lowest level in 11 years. Volume sold fell 10.9% compared to the same month in 2021.
