Federal deputies presented 22 amendments to change the Jair Bolsonaro government bill that creates new rules for bank loan guarantees. Presented in November, the project is being processed as a matter of urgency and may be put to a vote in the first half of 2022.
Three amendments propose the suppression of a chapter that creates companies dedicated to managing the guarantees offered by borrowers, one of the main innovations proposed by the government. State court presidents and consumer protection agencies opposed the idea.
The project seeks to reduce borrowing costs and expand access to credit with the new rules. One of the provisions authorizes the fractioning of assets offered to banks as collateral, allowing the same property, for example, to be used to take out multiple loans.
Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks) expressed support for the initiative when the project was presented to the Chamber of Deputies. Banks point to the lack of guarantees and the difficulties in executing them as one of the main factors in the rise of credit in Brazil
