The energy ministers had received an order from the “27” Summit to reach today a definitive agreement on the cap on natural gas – In favor of the plan Germany, Denmark, against Hungary, abstention from the Netherlands and Austria
At 180 euros per megawatt hour, the agreement of the energy ministers on the ceiling on the purchase price of natural gas was concluded.
Energy ministers had been mandated by the Summit of the ’27’ EU leaders to reach an agreement, as time was running out and the risk of causing further significant side effects to societies and economies was now too great.
As announced, the ceiling on the wholesale price of natural gas will come into effect from February 15.
Today’s agreement by the energy ministers puts an end to a months-long thriller, during which even the cohesion of the European Union was tested, with major conflicts and even a veto threat from the countries that insisted on a solution as soon as possible.
According to information transmitted by APE, the two hitherto cautious countries, Germany and Denmark, both voted in favor. The same information states that the Netherlands and Austria voted to abstain, while Hungary voted against.
