Benefit totals 188 million – All beneficiaries will see today’s credit in their accounts by evening

In his payment heating allowance totaling 188 million to 842,397 beneficiaries of the heating allowance, out of a total of 1,149,979 citizens who have applied to date, the Ministry of Finance proceeded today according to a statement by the minister Christos Staikouras.

As the minister emphasizes, “this amount corresponds, approximately, to 2/3 of the total budgeted amount of 300 million euros for the heating allowance for the winter season 2022-2023, as the old beneficiaries are currently receiving up to total amount of the heating allowance granted to them during the previous winter period. The advance will be offset against subsequent payments, the first of which is expected to be made by February 28, 2023.”

All beneficiaries will see today’s credit in their accounts by evening, depending on each bank’s credit flows.

It is noted that the deadline for submitting applications for the granting of the heating allowance, has been extended until January 13, 2023.

And Christos Staikouras mentions, among others, “the heating allowance for the current winter season, after the increase in the granted amount and the perimeter of the beneficiaries, covers the majority of households that will consume heating oil, natural gas and the other subsidized forms of fuel.

At the same time, the cost of heating oil is reduced for consumers, thanks to a subsidy of 20 cents per liter (25 cents, including VAT) at the pump until 31 December 2022. The fiscal cost of this measure is estimated at around €150 million for in the period October-December 2022. Measure which is extended, until March 31, 2023, with a subsidy of 12 cents per liter (15 cents, with VAT), which has an additional budgetary cost of approximately 70 million euros.

The above targeted measures to address the heating needs of households during the winter period amount to a total of 520 million euros.

An amount to which is added approximately 470 million euros, paid to date to 2.3 million of our vulnerable compatriots, in the form of one-off aid.

A boost of €250 is being received by around 1 million pensioners, 33,000 uninsured OPECA seniors, 140,000 disability benefit recipients and around 70,000 long-term unemployed, while in addition 225,000 minimum guaranteed income recipients are receiving a double payment this month and 820,000 OPECA child benefit recipients they collect an additional one and a half monthly installment.

With these interventions, the government proves, in practice, once again that it is on the side of the citizens – especially the most vulnerable -, implementing economically effective and socially just measures to support them in the current, difficult – internationally – situation”.
