Mônica Bergamo: TCU suspends Eletrobras meeting that could raise president’s salary to R$ 300,000

by

The Minister of the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) Vital do Rêgo determined that the Ministry of Economy and the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) immediately suspend the general meeting of Eletrobras scheduled for this Thursday afternoon ( 22).

Vital do Rêgo claims that there are signs of “possible irregularities” at the meeting that could increase the remuneration of the administrators of the privatized company “in the order of R$ 200,000 a month”.

As shown to Sheet, the proposal provides for more than a fivefold increase in the salary of the company’s president, which would rise from the current R$52,335.71 to R$300,000. And it asks that the increases be retroactive to April 2022, when the last shareholders’ meeting was held.

The Eletrobras text argues that the company’s administrators have been without readjustment since April 2015.

The vice-presidents, who today earn BRL 49,862.59, would receive BRL 110 thousand. Currently, the president and six directors receive salaries. Eletrobras’ proposal is that, in addition to the president, nine vice presidents be remunerated.

The members of the board of directors, who today earn BRL 5,440.36, would earn from BRL 60 thousand to BRL 200 thousand.

The general amount allocated to the compensation of directors and directors would increase from R$15.4 million to R$35.9 million per year. In addition to wages and benefits, the amount includes performance bonuses, the amounts of which will depend on meeting targets.
