Lukashenko: “Conspiracy theories” the deployment of military forces on the Ukrainian border

“This is. No other intention, no conspiracy” underlined the president of Belarus, putting an end to rumors of a development plan in the Russia-Ukraine war

The recent move by Belarus’ armed forces is not part of a plan to meddle in the Russia-Ukraine war, President Alexander Lukashenko said on Thursday.

“We did and are doing exercises. Now they are more extensive due to the current situation and threats. Therefore, we are conducting exercises on our territory,” Lukashenko said.

“This is. No other intention, no conspiracy” he underlined as rumors of Belarus’ involvement in the war flare up after Vladimir Putin’s visit to Belarus.

It is recalled that earlier in December, Belarus announced emergency military exercises throughout the country, followed by Putin’s trip to the country. This sparked speculation that the Russian president traveled with the intention of persuading Lukashenko to help him in the war against Ukraine. Belarus shares a 674-mile border with Ukraine.

The recent troop movements were a response to heightened tensions, Lukashenko said.

“We cannot rule out that aggression may develop against our country,” he said. “We see readiness on the part of our neighbors” he concluded.
