Future finance minister Fernando Haddad should travel to participate in the World Economic Forum, in Davos, in January, in his first international commitment at the head of the Brazilian economy.
Haddad should stay in the Swiss city between the 16th and 18th of January – the event will take place from the 16th to the 20th.
Although there is still no definition, the Brazilian delegation should be headed by the vice president and future Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB). He would replace President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), who will favor an agenda in South America at the beginning of his government.
Federal deputy Marina Silva (Rede-SP) should also be part of the entourage, who should be announced this Thursday (29) as the new head of the Environment.
The World Economic Forum is an event that brings together heads of government and ministers from around the world, as well as businessmen and economists. The event usually serves as an opportunity for national leaders to present economic policies and try to sell scenarios of stability and credibility, making it possible to attract investment.
Lula, however, has indicated that he should not attend Davos. The future Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, said two weeks ago that the PT’s first international trips would be to Argentina, the United States and China.
Lula’s first international trip to Argentina will be to participate in the CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Summit, which would be followed by an official visit to the neighboring country, where he will be received by President Alberto Fernández.
The summit is scheduled for January 24th.
The future government intends to give priority in international relations to reestablish ties with Latin America, recreating Brazilian participation in some forums that were abandoned by the current administration of Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In addition to Celac, there is the prospect of reestablishing its presence at Unasur.
Brazil abandoned CELAC during the administration of former Chancellor Ernesto Araújo and will now return to the organization, which should become one of the main forums for Brazilian foreign policy, alongside the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO).
