New government revokes IRS summit nominations for posts abroad

President Lula (PT) extinguished the posts of tax and customs attaché at Brazilian diplomatic representations abroad. The decision signed by him by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, is in an extra edition of the DOU (Official Gazette) published this Monday (2).

Brazil does not have many tax attaches abroad, there are only nine, of which five were created in the last week of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The posts were created in a decision published on December 26 and distributed to the top of the Federal Revenue on the last day of 2022.

The publication predicted that the former special secretary of the Federal Revenue, Julio Gomes, would go to the Brazilian embassy in Paris, France. The assistant secretary, Sandro Serpa, would stay in Brussels, Belgium, while the undersecretary general of Recita, José Ferraz, would go to Abu Dhabi.

The decision taken by the new government at the beginning of its management prevents the movement with the extinction of posts.

The appointments abroad made at the end of the Bolsonaro government were criticized by Unafisco Nacional, the union that represents the tax auditors of the Revenue.

“Never before has there been seen an institutional performance so far removed from the principles of impersonality, morality and the public interest. Such leaders acted with the clear objective of creating positions for themselves, as an exit route due to the change of government”, he said, in note, the entity.

The measure is part of a repeal promoted by Lula during his inauguration ceremony. The measures taken by the new president overturned Bolsonaro’s incentive to arm the population and the former president’s decisions regarding the environment.

The PT government also withdrew state-owned companies such as Petrobras and EBC from the privatization plan and asked the CGU (Comptroller General of the Union) to lift the last government’s measures increasing the secrecy of public information.
