Mônica Bergamo: Motoboys articulate the first stoppage of apps under Lula

by

An alliance formed by self-employed motoboys from at least four states plans a strike for January 25th, the first under Lula’s (PT) government. Mobilization should focus on shopping centers in the country, collection points and in front of Ifood offices, one of the main delivery apps on the market.

FIREPROOF

The movement will claim better working conditions, greater participation in discussions promoted by the government on the regulation of applications and the creation of a social fund to protect workers in the segment, among other points.

MEMBERS

According to the motoboy and Jr. Freitas, who leads the movement in São Paulo, at least 13,000 people from all Brazilian states already participate in WhatsApp groups created to organize the strike.

Although the regulation of work intermediated by applications was a flag of Lula during the campaign and studied during the transition, in the evaluation of articulators of the stoppage, the PT dialogues a lot with union centrals and little with independent motoboys.

DIALOGUE 2

“They have the habit of listening only to the leaders, but they don’t really listen to the worker who is on the street every day and who is being exploited”, says Jr. Freitas. He is one of the leaders of the recently created Alliance of Application Deliverers (AEA), which organizes the mobilization.

MODEL

“The centrals want to regulate the category by putting in the CLT regime. But the category is fragmented. A portion prefers to continue with the applications, as long as there is a regulation”, he continues.

MODEL 2

One of the complaints that will be taken to the elected government and app companies are the so-called double and triple deliveries, where more than one address is visited along a route. The remuneration, according to Jr. Freitas, does not correspond to the full values of deliveries made within the same trip.

MODEL 3

“The category understood the technology, knows that it can be improved and even likes this model, but not the way it is, outdated. Nowadays, they exploit the worker due to the country’s economic situation and the lack of jobs. The value [pago por cada entrega feita] this is it and that’s it. We don’t have much autonomy,” says the delivery man.

FOR YESTERDAY

The idea of taking the stoppage to collection points and application company headquarters on the 25th, he explains, is to press for immediate readjustments, even before there is a regulation of the modality by the federal government. “If you need [esperar o governo] make a regulation to get an increase, until then the category dies”, says Freitas.

FOR YESTERDAY 2

“We already deserve this increase for the motorcycle maintenance costs, for gasoline and for taxes. There are people working in the red to pay the bills. This makes people work more, in an exhausting day and under extreme fatigue, and suffer accidents”, continues.

LETHAL

The motto of the strike on January 25th will be “Stop killing us”. “[As condições colocadas] make the delivery man race against time. It’s a lethal combination”, highlights Jr. Freitas.
