Apple loses $1 trillion in one year

Exactly one year after reaching the historic mark of $3 trillion in market value, Apple has seen its valuation drop below $2 trillion this Tuesday (3), when its shares fell 3.7%.

The largest public company in the world has not been below that level since March 2021.

Which explains: thanks to strong demand for its products, Apple was the American big tech that suffered the least from the rise in interest rates promoted by the Fed (US central bank), but it did not escape the risk aversion of investors in this sour scenario.

Another company affected by the bottlenecks of Chinese production was Tesla. Elon Musk’s automaker announced on Monday (2) that it delivered 1.31 million vehicles last year, up nearly 40% year-on-year, but below its 50% target.

  • The number displeased the market, and the company’s shares plummeted. 12% this Tuesday. Last year, the drop was 68%.

Paes de Andrade resigns; dishes is indicated

The president of Petrobras, Caio Paes de Andrade, informed the board of the state-owned company of his resignation.

At the same time, the Ministry of Mines and Energy informed the company that Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN) will be appointed to exercise the position of president and member of the company’s collegiate body, the ministry said in a note.

Paes de Andrade will join the new government of São Paulo, commanded by Tarcísio de Freitas.

Procedures: after official nomination, Prates’ name will be submitted to internal governance procedures for completeness and eligibility review.

Who is nominated: with a long history of activity in the sector, it collaborated, for example, with the law that ended the monopoly of Petrobras, a project that was opposed by the PT. Today, however, he is critical of the state-owned asset sale process.

  • His nomination had already been announced and was well received by the oil and gas industry. Prates’ defense of a change in the company’s current pricing policy, however, concerns the entities.

New negative reaction

One more day of negative reaction in the Brazilian financial market to the speeches and initial actions of the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

In numbers: the dollar closed at an all-time high 1.77%a BRL 5.45the highest value since the end of July, while the Ibovespa fell 2.08%to the 104,165 spots.

  • In the futures interest market, a good thermometer of investor risk aversion, contracts jumped. The DI rate for 2024 increased from 13.53% to 13.79% per year and for 2025 jumped from 12.91% per 13.30%.

Which explains: analysts once again reacted badly to the speeches of new government officials.

  • In the morning, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said that he will present Lula with a flight plan with short, medium and long term actions for the economic agenda of the new administration. The speech reinforced the market’s distrust of the minister’s autonomy.

In the end of the day, the economic team acted to calm the mood. Gabriel Galípolo, number 2 at the Treasury, said he would cancel the changes the government would make to the ANA (National Water Agency), the current regulator of the sanitation sector in the country.

Folha also showed that Haddad discussed this Tuesday with his team a series of measures that increase revenue and reduce expenses, generating an impact of up to BRL 223 billion in public accounts.

  • The minister is under pressure to present a plan to mitigate the deficit of more than R$ 220 billion expected for this year.

The most punctual airline of 2022

The Brazilian Azul was appointed as the most punctual airline in 2022, with 88.93% arrivals on schedule.

The ranking made by Cirium, a company that analyzes aviation data worldwide, also shows Latam in fourth place, with 86.31% punctuality — also behind the Japanese ANA (All Nippon Airways) and Japan Airlines.

  • Cirium considers as punctuality the percentage of flights whose planes arrive at the arrival gate of the destination with up to 15 minutes of difference in relation to the scheduled time.

The pushing also points out the most punctual airports in the world. The champion was Haneda, in Tokyo, Japan, with 90.33% of departures on time.

The year 2022 was marked for the resumption of circulation at airports after the pandemic restrictions, and caught companies, mainly in Europe, with a lack of professionals in the summer. This ended up causing flight delays and cancellations.
