Mônica Bergamo: Boric says he finds Haddad’s proposal to create a common currency ‘interesting’

by

The president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, says he finds “interesting” the proposal of the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, for the creation of a common currency that will strengthen the commercial link between the countries of the region.

SISTERS CURRENCY

“We have to think outside the box,” Boric told the column, revealing that he was asked about the same subject when he visited Colombia.

LONG ROAD

The Chilean president claims, however, that “the processes are long term”.

LONG ROAD 2

“Think of the European experience. The European Coal and Steel Community [a primeira entidade supranacional formada por vários países europeus] it was founded in the 1950s. And it ended up in the European Union, which only got a common currency almost 50 years later,” he says.

OUR THING

Last year, Haddad and economist Gabriel Galípolo, who is now executive secretary at the Ministry of Finance, defended in an article in the Sheet the creation of a South American currency to boost trade and integration between countries. The idea is to remove the role of the dollar in economic relations in the region.

REAL TALK

It would not, however, be a single currency — as the euro is today in Europe. Each country in South America would continue to have its own currency.

TEST

Haddad has already spoken about the creation of a common currency with the Minister of Economy of Argentina, Sergio Massa, who received it at his home, in São Paulo, and also with the Argentine ambassador in Brazil, Daniel Scioli.

TEST 2

After talking with Haddad, the ambassador stated that the objective is to strengthen the trade bloc and expand ties between countries in the region.

TEST 3

He also signaled that the creation of a single currency, such as the euro, the official currency of the member countries of the European Union, is ruled out.

MICROPHONE

On the 12th, singers Alice Caymmi and Rachel Reis will release the track “Desfruta”, a reggae song that talks about beauty, afflictions, passion and state of mind. Production is by Iuri Rio Branco, and distribution by Altafonte. “I’ve always admired the artist Alice, and getting to know her up close, creating this sound together, only made this admiration grow even more. The track was beautiful”, celebrates Rachel Reis. “Desfruta” will also receive a clip starring the two and directed by Aline Lata. The idea is that the single emerges as one of the hits of this summer.
