A political clash between the government and SYRIZA occurred earlier on Monday over the increase in the minimum wage

Close at 770 to 780 euros the minimum wage will increase from April 1, according to information from SKAI

As SKAI journalist Elena Laskari pointed out, the information converges on the fact that we are going for an increase in the minimum wage which will exceed 50 euros from April 1. The prevailing scenario has two legs, one that takes the minimum wage to 770 euros, and another that takes the minimum wage to 780 euros, i.e. increases of 70 to 80 euros, or in percentage terms from 8% to 9%, but not the dialogue with the social partners has still started.

Due to the accuracy, it is perceived that there is a great need for an increase in wages, but on the other hand, businesses must also bear the cost.

At the same time, SYRIZA is calling for an immediate increase minimum wage at 800 euros. It is noted that the government does not rule out this scenario, but there needs to be a parallel move, a “counterweight”, i.e. a new reduction in employee insurance contributions for businesses by 0.5%. The government has promised programmatically decrease by 5 points, and with a new reduction of 0.5% it reaches the 5 points it has promised, but this has a fiscal cost.

It is noted that the feeling that exists within the ECB is that in the Eurozone we will have an increase of around 8% in minimum wages. If Greece also moves in the region of 8% to 9% there is no risk for obtaining investment grade, as an increase in the region of 8-9% is something that the markets expect.

Political conflict over raising the minimum wage

A political clash between the government and the main opposition occurred earlier on Monday over the increase in the minimum wage.

SYRIZA – PS in the programmatic proposal for the housing and income of the country’s youth (“how to” program) states, among other things:

The tip of the spear is the immediate increase of the minimum wage to 800 euros, but now in the midst of an inflationary crisis and the adoption of a price indexation mechanism. Therefore for the current year with inflation of 10% the minimum wage will go to 880 euros.

The government representative gives an answer to SYRIZA about the “how to” program Giannis Oikonomou.

Specifically it states:

“New Democracy has it, SYRIZA is looking for it. At 500 euros, Mr. Tsipras left us the minimum wage, we reached 713, and in the Spring we will increase it even more.
We have already created 270,000 new jobs.

We increased the student housing allowance, from 1000 euros during SYRIZA, to 1500 and 2000 euros for co-living. Subsidized programs for the acquisition of private housing by young people have been launched. In the virtual reality of SYRIZA, we respond with #actions.

PS: No one was sheltered by video. Just as no one went anywhere with subway-tarpaulins.”
