This Tuesday (10), the Mercado Livre portal is banking on 90% discounts on copies of the Federal Constitution sold through the site. To be entitled to the discount, the consumer must use the coupon “democracy” before finalizing the purchase.

According to the announcement published by the company, the action will be in the air until the 15th of January or until 1,000 units have been sold. In a purchase simulation carried out this Tuesday afternoon, the coupon was still active.

The action was aired two days after extreme right wing militants invaded the buildings of the House and Senate, the STF (Federal Supreme Court) and the Planalto Palace and left a trail of destruction.

“So that we never forget the importance of democracy: Federal Constitution with 99% discount”, says the advertisement. Mercado Livre did not say how many units of the Constitution have already been sold.

In a note, he stated that “like many Brazilians, Mercado Livre was dismayed by the seriousness of the violent acts against the headquarters of the Three Powers and against the Democratic State of Law and its institutions”.

The e-commerce company also said that it maintains a non-partisan position, but that it does not see Brazil in any regime other than the democratic one.

“Reflecting on this and on our role as a leading technology company in the country, we saw the opportunity to activate our ecosystem to expand access for more Brazilian men and women to one of the pillars of our democracy, the Federal Constitution.”

According to the rules disclosed by the company, the minimum value of copies sold at a discount will be R$1 and the maximum rebate will be R$250. Each buyer can take only one unit at a discount.
