How the coronavirus pandemic is changing the data in the way the industry operates – The inclusion of the Union of Equipment Rental Companies in SETE
The start of 2023 finds the equipment rental industry recovering from the turmoil of recent years and picking up where it was pre-coronavirus, with all the positives and negatives that entails. THE HERCA (Hellenic Association of Equipment Rental Companies) is the new entry in the market that did not exist before the coronavirus and aspires with steady steps and actions to change the way the industry operates and to lay a healthy foundation.
The pandemic has prompted equipment rental companies to rush to create an association that will defend the industry as a whole and help it have an existence and a place in the next day. And in this HERCA, although newly established, coped effectively and crucially – with numerous letters to all relevant Ministries on all issues that arose and needed intervention, organizing teleconferences with ministers and secretaries of ministries and undertaking important initiatives for the coordination of all relatives of links in the wider field of events and entertainment.
At the same time, the Union validated the object’s identity as a member of thematic tourism by joining SETE, while it sought and succeeded in connecting with the main chambers to which its members belong, the Professional Chamber and the Commercial and Industrial Chamber, now having strong allies in the realization of its goals.
With the main objective of the HERCA mark being a mark of the quality of the services provided by the members, criteria were set from the beginning for the members to join the Union, in order to make it clear that in order for a company to be a member, its relations with the state must to be transparent and to embrace the principles of healthy competition and fair business, with all that this implies for labor relations and safety issues.
Specifically for labor matters, in the recent talks with the state for the Digital Job Card, it became clear once again that the pathologies of the system that turn a blind eye to undeclared work are time to be corrected, while at the same time the nature of the work that imposes flexibility, always within the framework of legality, should be taken into account. The companies that make up HERCA are on the same side as their employees, have the same desires and views on work and its remuneration and are fighting for the same goal, the provision of quality services.
Regarding the technical specifications of the projects for the safety of the parties involved, the workers and the public, HERCA is in talks with the Athens Chamber of Commerce, in order to implement a regulation that will include the basic safety principles that all projects must meet . The President of the EEA Mr. Hatzitheodosiou, after being informed about the principles and purposes of the Union, he took a particular interest in the implementation of the regulation and pledged to assist in this important undertaking.
In the near future, the Union intends to contribute from its position to the promotion of the country as a strong player in attracting events from abroad. With initiatives and partnerships with other organizations that work in this direction, there is a belief that further impetus should be given to the promotion of the country’s potential in the organization and implementation of large-scale events and to fill the identified gap that exists in their promotion by the competent state bodies, mainly the EOT, which does not include this strong paper of the domestic tourist product in any of its actions.
Internally, HERCA, entering its third year of operation, consolidates the number of member companies that follow it, which, through internal ferments and contacts, embrace the principles of the Union and cooperate in the effort to implement the HERCA quality mark, the which they recognize that in a short time with the actions they have already started, it will be a significant competitive advantage for their services. In addition, having completed its operating scheme for the remunerative services it wants to offer to members, which include the day-to-day secretarial function for their requests, as well as tax and legal advice and having accumulated the necessary reserve, the Board of Directors was recently in pleased to announce a 30% subscription reduction for 2023.
