The Commerce Workers Union of São Paulo expanded its operations in Americanas stores to approach employees who were afraid after the retailer filed for bankruptcy, this Thursday (19).
The movement, which started on Monday (16) at the São Paulo units, has been expanded to more locations where the company is present, according to Ricardo Patah, president of the entity. He claims that the expansion was cobbled together with other trade unions through the UGT (Central Union of Workers), of which Patah is also president.
The idea is to guide employees on the effects of the judicial recovery triggered after the revelation of a BRL 20 billion accounting scandal, in addition to collecting information on possible impacts of the crisis on the work routine of the stores. The company has around 40,000 employees.
“We are in meetings with the government in Brasília this week and I have been raising this matter. There are more than 40,000 employees in the country and we are going to ask the Ministry of Labor to also call its superintendencies to verify any type of disrespect for labor legislation or any eventuality noncompliance,” he says.
Patah also claims to have prepared a document inviting the company to explain the possible consequences of the case and whether there is a risk of impact on employment.
