Bolsonaro says he can serve the Revenue, but he has nothing defined about server readjustment

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) stated, this Friday (24) at the Palácio da Alvorada, that he can meet the request of the Federal Revenue, but that readjustment to other servers remains undefined.

“Adjustment is another matter. We have a ceiling [de gastos] hard, unfortunately. I would like to grant it, but I’m still talking to the economics team to see what we can do. The civil servants had a pension reform, inflation of 10%, so their situation is very difficult”, he said.

Bolsonaro stressed that the resources reserved for the adjustment of civil servants in the 2022 Budget should serve the most disadvantaged categories.

“On Budget [de 2022] R$ 2 billion was earmarked to serve one or another more disadvantaged category. But what I heard is that they prefer not to have anyone than to have a few. Let’s see how it turns out, nothing is defined on this issue,” he said.

The president highlighted that he has not yet defined which categories will be readjusted.

“[Sobre] the R$ 2 billion will be decided on who to go. It could be for part of the IRS staff, it could be for federal highway officers, criminals, or for nobody. Or give less than 1% to everyone. Let it calm down a little, and we’ll make the best decision,” he said.

In recent days, tax auditors from the Internal Revenue Service handed over leadership positions after Congress approved a forecast adjustment for federal police officers in the 2022 Budget.

Sindifisco (the auditors’ union) estimates that more than 500 civil servants have already given up commissioned positions in protest.

Other federal executive careers began to complain about the expected increase in police officers. Among them are employees of Ipea (Institute for Applied Economic Research) and BC (Central Bank), in addition to medical experts and agricultural auditors.

Regarding the payroll exemption, Bolsonaro reaffirmed that he must sanction the measure, in addition to the exemption from IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products) for taxi fares.

“They made a mistake in the Budget, but it will be sanctioned, I want a solution. I don’t want to know who is responsible. It doesn’t matter under what conditions. I held a meeting with the 12 sectors, including you from the press, and it was agreed”, stated.

The rapporteur of the 2022 Budget proposal, Deputy Hugo Leal (PSD-RJ), failed to provide resources to extend the exemption from the payroll of 17 sectors. Amounts are only allocated to pay the remainder of the program’s execution in 2021.

The exemption would end at the end of this year. After pressure from business, however, Congress approved the extension until 2023. The measure has not yet been sanctioned by Bolsonaro.

The president also expressed again his intention to veto the release of the game in Brazil, if the issue is approved by Congress, but he stressed that he has the impression that there are votes to overturn this eventual veto.

“I intend to veto the issue of games in Brazil, I think we are not mature enough to advance on this issue there. There are only a lot of people who defend, if I veto and overturn the veto, we will respect,” he added.
