Household tariffs: February subsidy announcements tomorrow – 4 cents per kilowatt hour

by

The subsidy applies to consumptions up to 500 kilowatt hours – The final price for consumers will be set at the levels of 15-17 minutes

The de-escalation of the price of natural gas and the formation of the nominal electricity tariffs announced by the providers for February, very close to the pre-crisis levels and 60% below those of January, bring significant relief to the state coffers. The opening of the gap between the PPC tariff, which is also the reference tariff for the calculation of subsidies, and the target price of 15-17 cents/kWh for household relief has been significantly reduced and the subsidies are adjusted accordingly to very low levels and with a new architecture, leaving out large consumptions and industry.

The Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas is expected to announce on Monday a subsidy of 4 cents/kilowatt hour for the first 500 kilowatt hours and zero subsidies for the industry, since the nominal price of the tariffs is below the levels of 23 euros that were the January subsidy.

According to “Kathimerini”, the second and third scale of household consumption, i.e. 500-1,000 kilowatt-hours and more than 1,000, will receive a subsidy only if they achieve savings of 15%.

This is, according to information, the basic scenario that the relevant ministries have elaborated and which, as far as household consumption is concerned, incorporates the new model proposed by the Commission for targeted subsidies to vulnerable consumers and linked to savings for the highest incomes. Sources of the Ministry of the Interior indicate that the subsidies in the coming months will be determined again based on the course of prices in the wholesale market and the invoices of the providers.

Currently, however, for February the total cost of subsidies is expected to be limited to around 100 million euros, from 840 million euros in January and the very high 1.9 billion euros of last September.

For household tariffs the total budget for February will range between 50 and 60 million euros, from 470 million euros in January. The government took into account PPC’s tariff, which is 19.9 cents for the first 500 kilowatt hours and 21.1 cents for more than 500 kilowatt hours.
