Staikouras: Year of great challenges for the economy in 2023

The return to the investment stage is a milestone year for the country, the finance minister said from Thessaloniki

A year of great challenges for the economy due to the instability in the international environment, but also a milestone year for the country’s return to the investment stage, will be 2023. These estimates were formulated by the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikourasduring his speech at the meeting of the board of directors of the Association of Greek Industries (SBE) and the event of cutting the New Year’s pie of the organization.

He also emphasized that 2023 will also be a year of development. According to the forecasts of the European Commission, he reminded, the rate of growth in the country will be three times higher than the average of the euro zone this year.

Mr. Staikouras also reiterated that in order to deal with the challenges, due to the instability in the international scene, the government has set 10 central priorities with the aim of further strengthening the Greek economy and strengthening the competitiveness of businesses.

SBE President: “The resilience of the industry will depend on the continuation of the reforms”

During her introduction, the president of SBE, Loukia Sarantis, pointed out that the country’s industry is still trying to cope with the effects of high energy costs. “That is why it is considered necessary and urgent for the government not only to continue in the same direction, which has borne fruit to date, but also to take other measures that will contribute to safeguarding the competitiveness of businesses, which are detailed in the recent intervention of Liaison to the Prime Minister” he noted.

Mrs. Saranti also conveyed to the minister the intense concern of businesses for maintaining their competitiveness and for this reason she proposed an immediate reduction in employer contributions, as well as tax reliefs, while underlining that the resilience of the industry will depend on the continuation of government reforms.
