In a meeting with trade unionists this Monday (30), the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, pledged to act as a bridge between commerce workers and representatives of Americanas. Labor leaders fear that the company will not be able to rebuild itself and dismiss more than 40,000 employees.
Unionists claim that the Lula government was absent from discussions about the retailer’s accounting scandal. During this Monday’s meeting, Marinho made the Ministry available to help in the negotiations.
“We asked him to be the leader of the meetings. We need to understand better what will be the restructuring process of Americanas and how the workers will be”, said Nilton Souza da Silva, representative of trade workers at Força Sindical.
The union centrals also ask that the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Revenue be more active in the investigation of the case.
In a note, the Ministry said that, in the next few days, Marinho will call Americanas representatives to find a way to help the company and jobs.
On Friday (3), the centrals will hold a demonstration against Americanas in Rio de Janeiro. An act in São Paulo is also on the radar of leaders, however, no date has yet been set.
