DESFA: Strong interest in the Revythoussa station for the period 2023-2027 – What does it mean for the country’s security of supply

The significant interest of users forms a favorable condition regarding the security of supply of the country and the wider region

The use of the station will remain at high levels for the next five years of Liquefied Natural Gas of DESFA in Revythoussa. According to the Administrator, in the auctions for the reservation of unloading slots and gasification capacity at the Station for the period 2023-2027, strong interest was recorded from domestic and international users of the National Natural Gas System.

The detailed results of the auctions are as follows:

-For the year 2023, all 26 slots offered were reserved and correspond to the unloading of a total quantity of 19TW. A total of 8 users participated in the process, with the total of offered slots being reserved by 4 domestic and 3 international users. Taking into account the auctions carried out the previous year, for the year 2023 a total of 43 slots have been reserved for the unloading in Revythoussa of a quantity of 36 TW from 4 domestic users and 3 international ones. The reserved Gasification Capacity for 2023 corresponds to 80% of the maximum Gasification Capacity of the Terminal.

-For the year 2024, 25 of the 30 offered were committed slots for unloading a quantity of 17.5 TW. A total of 9 users took part in the process, of which 5 domestic and 3 international users bid. Cumulatively with the results of the 2021 auction, 5 domestic and 3 international users have reserved 40 of the total 45 available slots, to unload a quantity of 32.5 TW in 2024. The reserved Gasification Capacity for 2024 corresponds to 72% of the Maximum Gasification Capacity of Revythoussa.

-For the year 2025, 30 of the total 45 offered slots were reserved for the unloading of a quantity of 25.5 TW from the 5 domestic and 1 international user that participated which corresponds to 55% of the Maximum Gasification Capacity of Revythoussa.

-For the year 2026, 21 of the total 45 offered slots, totaling 16.5 TW, were reserved by the 3 domestic and 1 international user who took part in the process. The committed Gasification Capacity for 2026 corresponds to 47% of the Capacity.

-For the year 2027, in the auction that was completed the previous days, 21 of the total 45 offered slots were reserved, with the participation of 1 domestic and 1 international user, which registered a total amount of 17 TW (28% of the Capacity).

As DESFA emphasizes: “The significant interest of users forms a favorable condition regarding the security of supply of the country and the wider region, given the significant increase in exports to Bulgaria and the wider region of South-Eastern Europe, recorded during the previous year. The process of annual planning of landings and capacity commitment implemented by DESFA from 2020 is based on market mechanisms (auctions) with the aim of efficient use of the Revythoussa LNG facility based on the changing conditions in the Greek and international LNG market”.
