Special arrangement for freelancers, farmers and self-employed – This will apply to employees

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced the extension of the insurance capacity for one year, for vulnerable social groups.

Also, special regulation is provided for freelancers, farmers and the self-employed.

The ministry’s announcement in more detail:

With a regulation included in an amendment of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the insurance capacity of the long-term unemployed and the uninsured elderly is extended without conditions for one year (until February 29, 2024), in the context of the welfare that is permanently taken for vulnerable social groups so that they have access to medical care.
With the same arrangement, the insurance capacity of special categories of employees and their family members is extended in the same way for one year. Specifically, the regulation includes:
• Employees who continued to suffer the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and received special purpose compensation during 2022
• Businesses and employers who maintain a business establishment or carry out activity in areas affected by natural disasters or other natural disasters.
• Former professionals who have closed their books, remain unemployed and uninsured and have settled any debts.
• Tour guides who, while they have paid insurance contributions as usual, have not completed the implementation of the Analytical Periodic Declaration (APD) by e-EFKA and therefore their insurance days do not appear in the system.
• Workers at the Skaramangas and Elefsina shipyards and the Perama Shipyard Repair Zone

What will apply to the unemployed?

In addition, the special regulation that applied in 2022 for the self-employed (freelancers, farmers, self-employed) is being renewed in order to arrange their finances and to be able to renew their insurance capacity without a problem. In particular, the self-employed are given exceptional insurance capacity, until May 31, 2023, regardless of the existence of debts to the insurance funds.
At the same time, they are asked to pay the amount corresponding to the annual contributions for 2022 of the health branch of the insurance class they have chosen, in order to renew their insurance capacity until February 29, 2024.
In other words, as long as a self-employed person pays the amount corresponding to the annual health contribution – retrospectively for the year 2022 – his insurance capacity will be renewed until February 29, 2024, even if he has other insurance debts.
