Workers’ salaries have new social security contribution discounts this year. The new amounts, in force since January 1st, begin to arrive in the pocket at the beginning of this month, with the payment of the salary for January.
To define a table of contributions valid in 2023, the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) applies the readjustment of 5.93%, which corresponds to the INPC (National Consumer Price Index) accumulated last year. It is the same index used to readjust retirements, pensions and aid above the minimum wage, which began to be paid this Wednesday.

contribution salary | Aliquot |
up to BRL 1,302.00 | 7.50% |
BRL 1,302.01 to BRL 2,571.29 | 9% |
BRL 2,571.30 to BRL 3,856.94 | 12% |
BRL 3,856.95 to BRL 7,507.49 | 14% |
The rates, which vary from 7.5% to 14%, apply to each pay range, as if they were salary slices, and not the full amount. The change has been applied since the pension reform, valid since November 2019.
The contribution to the INSS for workers with a formal contract will be at least BRL 97.65 per month in 2023, considering the minimum wage of BRL 1,302.
The new contribution ranges to the INSS are valid for workers with a formal contract, domestic workers and independent workers. In the case of salaried workers, the payment is made directly by the company.
According to the INSS, the rates remain at 20% and 11% for individual taxpayers (self-employed), and 20%, 11% and 5% for optional taxpayers (such as unemployed people and housewives), according to the form of contribution to Social Security.
