The “SYN-ERASIA” employment support program is extended until March 31, 2022, by decision of the Ministers of Finance, Development and Investment, Labor and Social Affairs, Shipping and Island Policy, the Deputy Minister of Finance and the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
For the period January-March 2022, the program “SYN-ERGASIA” includes the employees who have a dependent employment relationship, full time, as of October 31, 2021, (the data of which are taken from the Information System “ERGANI”) in companies that meet the financial elements set out in the decision, which are the same as those in force for the period October-December 2021.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the “COOPERATION” program, which has been “running” since June 2020, has become an important tool to support employment during the pandemic, boosting workers’ incomes while alleviating businesses from a significant portion of payroll costs.
According to the latest available data, more than 150 million euros have been spent so far for the “COOPERATION” program, while in November about 30,000 employees were included in the mechanism.
Regarding the operation of the program, it is reminded that the employer can reduce the time of a full-time employee up to 50%, without changing the employment relationship. For the time the employee is not working, the state budget supports the employee himself, covering 60% of the salary (up to a certain amount), which corresponds to this period. As long as the employee is included in the “COOPERATION” program, the employer is not allowed to terminate the employment contract.
