Panel SA: Industry sends letter to Alckmin with concern about political name in Inmetro

by

A group of industrial entities and certification companies sent a letter to the Minister of Industry, Geraldo Alckmin, this Thursday (9th) asking that appointments of leaders of organizations under the Ministry’s command be restricted to technical profiles.

The document indicates a fear that future government appointments will include party nominees. The letter cites concern with Inmetro (National Institute of Metrology) and Inpi (National Institute of Industrial Property).

Last month, President Lula exonerated several boards from the summits of the two institutes for considering them names of Jair Bolsonaro.

Inmetro continues without a president formally sworn in after the departure of Marcos Heleno Guerson. At Inpi, Cláudio Vilar Furtado, who has worked at the institute since 1998, took over on an interim basis. At the inauguration ceremony as minister, last month, Alckmin mentioned Inmetro and Inpi as pillars of the country’s reindustrialization process.

“It’s taking too long and we’re worried. Inmetro and Inpi need to have people aligned with the quality infrastructure. As we don’t know who it is, the concern is that this falls into some political environment that doesn’t even know Inmetro’s address” , says Synesio Batista, president of Abrac (which brings together certification companies).

According to him, the idea of the companies is not to indicate their own names, just to defend the appointment of people who have technical knowledge of the quality infrastructure.

In addition to Abrac, the letter is signed by Abimaq (machinery and equipment industry association), Abrinq (toy manufacturers), Abinee (electrical and electronics industry), ABNT, Abrapem (manufacturers of scales, weights and measures), Remesp ( São Paulo Metrological Network), Abilux (lighting industry) and Abilumi (manufacturers and importers of lighting products).
