Viação Itapemirim no longer serves 73 cities; see places

Viação Itapemirim, which belongs to the group with the same name, asked ANTT (National Land Transport Agency) to suspend service in 73 markets where it operates. Each market represents a city, through which a company line passes.

According to ANTT, the request made by Itapemirim was met by ordinance 476, published on Wednesday (29) in the Federal Official Gazette (Diário Oficial da União). The suspension of services takes effect on January 27, 2022.

The Itapemirim group owns the ITA airline (Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos) which, since the 17th, has left thousands of consumers without transport with the announcement of the suspension of flights. This week ITA closed a term of commitment with Procon-SP to reimburse consumers in São Paulo, under penalty of a R$ 5 million fine.

Questioned by leaf, ANTT clarified that “the passenger will have the right to a refund of the amount paid for the ticket, within 30 (thirty) days of the request, simply by means of a declaration of will through the form provided by the carrier”.

The group has been under bankruptcy protection since 2016 and has tax debts of nearly R$ 2 billion. The owner, Sidnei Piva, has a trajectory marked by accusations of broken contracts and lawsuits.

A leaf The company sought out what this suspension represents in the total of its operations, but Itapemirim only sent a note in which it says it “recently presented a logistical and operational restructuring plan, with the objective of reducing costs and maximizing financial results in long-distance routes”.

According to the company, the group’s road operations “continue normally, with coverage in more than 2,700 destinations in Brazil and with the same level of safety, service and operational efficiency characteristic of Viação Itapemirim”.
