Opinion – From Grain to Grain: Discover the main tip to reach the first million

by

In July 2018 I was walking with my wife in New York and came across an insurance billboard that said:

“We spend more time worrying about retirement, than planning for it (we spend more time worrying about retirement than planning, literally).”

At that moment, I found the message interesting and took a photo (below).

Later, I understood the depth of the sentence. And how it applies to many aspects of our personal and financial lives.

We all want to accumulate a fortune and surpass the R$1 million barrier. Just like we want to learn a new language or improve our fitness.

Without a doubt, for each of these goals there is an optimal way that could make us reach the goal in less time.

However, for all of them, there is something that separates those who can reach, or at least get close, from others.

Nobody starts gym lifting heavy dumbbells. Just like you’re not going to go out speaking a language right after watching a movie.

In investments, most spend most of their time complaining or questioning themselves. For example:
– How to make?
– When to do it?
– Am I doing it right?
– What if it goes wrong?

They forget that the process of achieving fortune is a marathon.

You will make mistakes, temptations such as procrastination, tiredness or discouragement will appear. But none of that matters.

In a marathon, the main tip is to get started.

Start investing and don’t stop.

If you do, it may take longer or less, but it will come.

Returning to the sentence of the outdoor above, in investments, i would say that we spend more time worrying about the goal and the journey, than doing, in other words, saving.

This Monday will be the first business day of the year.

So don’t worry about what the journey will be like.

Just start investing.

And don’t stop.
