IBGE expects to receive 1 million entries for the Demographic Census contest

by

The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) plans to receive at least 1 million applications, until January 21, for the temporary work contest in the operations of the 2022 Demographic Census.

The estimate was released this Monday (3), at a press conference, by the coordinator of Human Resources at IBGE, Bruno Malheiros.

In all, the competition is expected to fill 206,891 temporary job vacancies for this year’s Census. Until the beginning of this Monday, the institute had received around 650,000 applications, indicated Malheiros.

The IBGE is betting on the growth of this number, up to the range of 1 million, thanks to the extension of the deadline for registrations. The period for applications was initially scheduled for Wednesday (29), but, just last week, the institute announced the extension until January 21st.

“We opened the selection process in a difficult period for people to apply [em dezembro], with only two weeks and with Christmas in the middle. We were already expecting to do the extension, which is something very common in these processes”, indicated Malheiros.

In his view, there are factors that tend to stimulate interest in entries in January. One of them is the end of year-end temporary work contracts in sectors of the economy — commerce, for example, tends to look for professionals for a fixed period of time to supply the demand generated by Christmas sales.

“In January, we have people who are starting to mobilize in search of income and who were in temporary vacancies, as well as students in search of opportunities,” commented Malheiros.

The coordinator assessed as positive the number of 650,000 registrations so far, as they were made over just two weeks in December.

“With the longer period, we believe it will reach and even surpass 1 million applications.”

Most vacancies are for enumerator

The competition foresees 183,021 vacancies for enumerator, 18,420 for ACS (supervisor census agent) and 5,450 for ACM (municipal census agent). FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas) is the organizer of the selection. Entries can be made on the contest website.

The payment fee is R$57.50 for the census taker and R$60.50 for the census agent. The amounts can be paid until February 16th. There is the possibility of tax exemption for low-income people.

With the new calendar, the date of the exams was also changed: from March 27th to April 10th.

In the case of census taker vacancies, candidates must have completed elementary education. These professionals will act directly in the collection of Census information from more than 70 million households.

The census taker’s salaries vary according to production. It is possible to simulate the remuneration on the IBGE Census website.

The vacancies of ACS (supervisor census agent) and ACM (municipal census agent) are of medium level. Salaries are R$1,700 and R$2,100, respectively.

The ACM manages the work of the Census information collection posts. Meanwhile, the ACS, subordinate to the ACM, has as its main function to guide the enumerators during the execution of field work.

The IBGE states that, as census agent vacancies will have a single registration, ACM positions will be offered to candidates with the best classification in the contest. The others will be entitled to the positions of ACS, following the order of performance in the selection.

Of the approximately 650,000 registrations already made, around 340,000 are for census taker opportunities, and approximately 310,000 for census agents.

The Demographic Census takes place every ten years. The new edition was scheduled for 2020, but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2021, the lack of budget funds on the part of the federal government prevented the population counting from being carried out. The values for the research in 2022 were released after the STF (Supreme Federal Court) was called.
