The soaring demand for Covid-19 and Influenza tests, driven by the advance of flu and omicron, is already leading manufacturers of tests to reassess production.
As anticipated by the Panel SA, the number of rapid tests carried out in pharmacies jumped from a level of 10 thousand to more than 31 thousand between December 1 and 29 in the monitoring of Abrafarma (an association that brings together the large drugstore chains). The total number of positives went from 524 to 5,334 in the period.
In addition to pharmaceutical retail, demand rises in hospitals, clinics and laboratories, but the demand for companies, concerned with employee testing, also advances.
At Eco Diagnóstica, production should double in the coming weeks, to 80,000 daily tests. The company opened an extra shift of employees so as not to delay deliveries, according to Vinicius Pereira, president of the company.
At the peak of the pandemic, between January and March 2021, Eco Diagnóstica says it sold 100,000 Covid tests a day.
Supplier MedLevensohn, which also records the warming, says it is monitoring the situation to increase the import of the product, if necessary.
At the remote clinical analysis laboratory Hilab, director Antonio Vazquez claims that December doubled the numbers recorded in the best month of production and praise since the beginning of the pandemic.
