“The announcement of the amount of the new minimum wage is far from the demands of the poorest workers and does not allow them to cover basic living needs” states the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) in a statement.

As he points out, the Confederation’s position is clear and well-documented: GSEE has analyzed with arguments the necessity for the minimum wage to be 60% of the median wage plus the expected inflation, i.e. at 826 euros.

According to the GSEE, the institution of the minimum wage is decisive for creating the conditions for a transition to a more resilient, sustainable and fair economy and society.

For the Confederation, therefore, it is imperative to institutionally restore the formation of the minimum wage, after negotiation with the social partners, that is, through a National General Collective Labor Agreement.

“Employees continue to be in the eye of the storm, which is why further measures are required, which will strengthen their incomes, their protection, the fight against delinquency against them, but also the institutionalization and strengthening of collective negotiations and collective agreements” emphasizes GSEE.
