Inflation of goods used in industry had a change of 1.31% in November 2021, show data from the IPP (Producer Price Index). The result signals a slowdown compared to October, when the increase had been 2.26%.
The survey was released this Wednesday (5) by the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).
Despite the loss of breath, the indicator still accumulates high of 28.86% in 12 months. It is the lowest mark in 12 months since February 2021 (28.50%), indicated the IBGE. It was at 28.95% until October.
The IPP measures the variation in product prices at the “factory entrance” without the effect of taxes and freight. In other words, it captures the values of goods used in the production lines.
The survey assesses 24 activities in extractive and manufacturing industries. Of the total, 17 had positive changes in prices in November.
The main influences for the increase in the index in the month came from petroleum refining and alcohol products (impact of 0.71 percentage points and increase of 6.63%). Then come other chemical products (weight of 0.47 percentage point and increase of 4.9%).
According to the manager of the IPP survey, Manuel Campos Souza Neto, the sectors with the greatest impact on the November IPP felt reflexes from international trade.
Throughout the pandemic, the industry began to suffer from the scarcity of part of the inputs. The reduced supply made prices rise. The high dollar and the appreciation of commodities also helped to make goods used by factories more expensive.
In the accumulated result for 2021, between January and November, the IPP registered an increase of 28.36%.
Even with the reopening of the economy, the industrial sector is showing signs of losing steam in Brazil. Affected by the scarcity of inputs and rising costs, Brazilian industrial production dropped 0.6% in October, compared to September, according to the IBGE. It was the fifth consecutive downturn in the sector, which had not occurred since 2015.
