Household deposits decreased by 202 million euros in Banks in February, to 139.7 billion euros from 139.8 billion euros the previous month and 141.3 billion euros in December 2022.

According to the data of the Bank of Greece in February 2023, business deposits showed a decrease of 1.255 billion euros, compared to a decrease of 3.091 billion euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change decreased to 0.5% from 2.9% in the previous month. In particular, MXE deposits decreased by 1.425 billion euros, compared to a decrease of 3.396 billion euros in the previous month. Deposits of insurance companies and other financial institutions increased by 171 million euros, compared to an increase of 305 million euros in the previous month.

As a result, deposits for the entire private sector of the economy decreased by €1.45 billion compared to a decrease of €4.5 billion in the previous month, while the annual rate of change decreased to 2.9% from 3.5% in the previous month .

instead an increase of 366 million euros was recorded by the State’s deposits. On the lending side, the annual rate of change in total private sector financing eased to 4.8% from 5.7% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of total financing to the private sector was positive by €27 million, compared to a negative net flow of €2.021 billion in the previous month.

In more detail, the monthly net flow of financing to businesses, in February 2023, was positive by 150 million euros, against a negative net flow of 1,728 billion euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change decreased to 9.8% from 11 .3% in the previous month. In particular, the annual rate of change in financing of non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased to 9.7% from 10.6% in the previous month.

Their monthly net funding flow was negative €90 million, compared to a negative net flow of €1.405 billion the previous month. The annual rate of change in the financing of insurance companies and other financial institutions decreased to 10.2% from 18.0% in the previous month. Their monthly net funding flow was positive by €240 million, compared to a negative net flow of €323 million the previous month.

The monthly net flow of funding to individuals and private non-profit institutions was negative by €103 million in February 2023, compared to a negative net flow of €203 million the previous month. The annual rate of change in their funding was -2.5% from -2.4% in the previous month.

Finally, the monthly net flow of funding to general government in February 2023 was negative €607 million, compared to a negative net flow of €1,263 million in the previous month. The annual rate of change in general government funding eased to 6.6% from 7.3% in the previous month.
