A subsidy of 42 euros in the electricity bills of the main residence for all households, regardless of income and square meters, announced the Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas in the context of measures to support families and businesses from energy price increases.
Analytically:
• for consumption up to 150 kilowatt hours, 80% is subsidized with 160 euros per megawatt hour.
• for consumption from 151-300 kilowatt hours, 60% is subsidized with 120 euros per megawatt hour
Thus the average monthly aid corresponds to 42 euros for the first 300KWh.
The measure concerns 4,200,000 benefits and the total budget of the measure reaches 157 million euros.
Especially for households with social tariff (CTO) the subsidy will amount to 180 euros per megawatt hour, ie 90% of the increase is absorbed and the average monthly aid corresponds to 54 euros for the first 300KWh.
For businesses, all non-household tariffs (low, medium, high voltage) will be subsidized horizontally at the amount of 65 euros per megawatt hour. The total business subsidy measure for January is estimated at 133m euros.
As the Minister of Environment noted, from November 2021 to March 2022, the suspension of the payment of Utility Services (SGI) for the support of companies connected to the Medium Voltage also applies.
From February onwards, it is considered, in cooperation with the European Competition Commission, that the subsidy be adjusted per professional sector according to the severity of the energy costs in the operation of the company.
Gas subsidy
In natural gas, the January subsidy for households will amount to 20 euros per megawatt hour, while DEPA customers will receive an additional discount of 20 euros per megawatt hour. As Mr. Skrekas noted, similar support will be requested from the other providers.
The total amount of the subsidy from the government and DEPA will amount to 54 million euros for January, where the wholesale price of Natural Gas is estimated at 114 euros per megawatt hour.
According to Mr. Skrekas, the measure will be re-evaluated every month and the unit price of the subsidy will be adjusted.
Finally, in terms of commercial consumers and industries, the subsidy is extended, regardless of size and turnover, to 30 euros per megawatt hour with the amount of the measure reaching 51 million euros.
“In conclusion, the total value of measures to support all households and all professionals and businesses in the face of the energy crisis for January amounts to 395 million euros and includes both Electricity and Natural Gas. The resources come from the Energy Transition Fund.
With the extension of the support measures in the first month of 2022, we prove that we stand by every Greek family, in every Greek company so that no one is left unprotected in the face of the unprecedented international energy crisis. “In February, we will re-evaluate the situation and redefine the subsidy prices”, concluded the Minister of Environment and Energy.
