Restaurant owners in the Campinas region say that the decision of the Amparo City Hall (SP), to resume restrictions on the operation of commerce in the city because of the increase in Covid cases, is hasty and causes alarmism in the population.
For Matheus Mason, president of Abrasel de Campinas (association of bars and restaurants in the region), the infection statistics in the municipality do not justify the measures, which began to take effect this Friday (7) and continue until January 31.
“A city, even a small one, with 73,000 inhabitants, which is the case of Amparo, taking such a decision, begins to impact other cities. economy,” says Mason.
The entity is preparing a letter, which should be sent to the city hall next Monday (10), arguing that the decision is not based on a correct analysis of the data.
Mason says the sector has already been severely hit by the pandemic and has suffered from increased fees and taxes in recent months. He said the return of a wave of restrictions would be an additional blow and put jobs at risk.
In Mason’s opinion, the current rate of Covid cases in the municipality is low compared to the total recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.
