Regarding bank deposit and loan interest rates, they will also be posted in the next few days and will be updated every time each bank changes the interest rates
On the e-katanalotis.gov.gr platform, the electricity and natural gas tariffs of all providers will be posted, as well as the interest rates on deposits and loans for consumers and bank businesses.
This was decided in a meeting held today Wednesday by the Ministers of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, Finance, Christos Staikouras and Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas and the Deputy Minister of Development and Investments, Nikos Papathanasis.
Specifically, it was decided that the invoices will be posted as follows:
- for electricity, it will be done for the first time on April 20 (May tariffs) – and henceforth on the 20th of every month – when, and based on the legislation, providers are required to notify consumers,
- for natural gas will be posted in the coming days and will be updated whenever each provider changes their tariffs.
At the same time, users of the platform will be given the opportunity to compare prices based on their consumption.
Interest rates
As for bank deposit and lending rates, they will also be posted in the coming days and updated every time each bank changes interest rates or makes arrangements, such as the one recently announced to protect natural persons with informed mortgage loans.
It is recalled that today on the e-katanalotis platform the prices of 1,200 consumer products in supermarkets and of fuel are posted on a daily basis and on a weekly basis the “Household Basket” and for the festive periods, the “Godparents’ Basket” now and the “Santa’s Basket” formerly.
At the same time, the following are posted:
- supermarket offer brochures,
- the legislation and information notes on consumer rights and any kind of information that is useful to the consumer.
In addition, through the platform the consumer can, either by name or anonymously, file a complaint with the general secretariat of Trade and Consumer Protection as well as configure his own “basket” of products by monitoring their price trends every day.
It is noted that the platform is visited by 500,000 unique visitors per week, 300,000 have “downloaded” to their mobile phones and use the app of the same name, while 150,000 users have configured their own “baskets”.
The Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras stated:
“By posting the electricity and natural gas tariffs of each provider, as well as the posting of bank deposit and lending rates for individuals and businesses on the e-katanalotis platform, transparency and competition are enhanced for the benefit of citizens.
Consumers gain an extremely useful tool that enables them to compare prices in budget-critical areas and choose the best solution for them, while businesses gain a significant incentive to become more competitive.”
The Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis said:
“As we all now know, the tools we built at the Ministry of Development and Investment, known as e-katanalotis and the Household Basket, are working. They work because they enhance competition, and intercompany competition lowers prices in favor of consumers. In a meeting between the Ministers, we therefore decided to use the e-katanalotis tool in favor of depositors, borrowers and electricity consumers.
Thus, from this month on e-katanalotis will be posted the electricity prices of each provider and the interest rates of deposits and loans per bank. So that each depositor, each borrower and each consumer knows which company and bank is best for them.
I wish companies would make good offers for us to advertise and banks to lower lending rates and increase deposit rates to competitive levels also for us to advertise.
We will know and I will tell myself which company has the cheapest electricity price every month and which bank gives the best interest rate.”
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Kostas Skrekas stated:
“To deal with the energy crisis, the government subsidized energy costs and at the same time gave consumers the opportunity to freely choose the provider that suits them, by institutionalizing their obligation to announce the next month’s tariff policy.
Today, we are taking another step towards substantially facilitating and protecting citizens’ interests. Starting next month, we will include the prices of electricity providers on the website e-katanalotis.gov.gr, so that consumers can easily compare and decide what is best for them. The government, with a plan and with transparency, proceeds to take advantage of every possibility in order to be practically on the side of all Greeks”.
The Deputy Minister of Development and Investments, Nikos Papathanasis said:
“Another European innovation, which focuses on the consumer and his protection, is being implemented. The pioneering e-katanalotis tool we have created is now enriched with data on electricity and natural gas tariffs as well as bank interest rates for deposits and personal and business loans. In this way, we enable all our fellow citizens to be informed in real time about the most advantageous solutions, whether they concern their daily shopping or their new mortgage and their deposits. At the same time, we strengthen competition in the specific sectors, which at the end of the day works to the benefit of the consumer”.
