Panel SA: Temporary worker says he was not called to replace away by Covid

by

The increase in cases of employees on leave with Covid in recent weeks has not been reflected in an increase in temporary hires to replace them, according to Asserttem (association of temporary work).

For Marcos Abreu, president of Asserttem, the contracting companies are having difficulty predicting whether the Ômicron may also affect demand, which may be leading to the decision to hold the operation at this moment, instead of hiring more manpower.

“Companies are preferring to turn off the operation to insert temporary ones. They are afraid. For example, services for individuals, which should be heated in the summer, are not. They are bars, restaurants, medical clinics, beauty salons”, he says.

Abreu says that the sector is scared in the face of forecasts. According to him, the scenario of uncertainties observed this January is similar to April 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic.

“The industry is also not replacing the workers who are leaving. They are afraid that the demands will not be maintained because of the micron”, he says.

The recent escalation of Covid and flu is already affecting the operation of several sectors, from hospitals to restaurants. In aviation, airlines announce the cancellation of flights after the increase in cases of contaminated crew.

Shopkeepers say that this week they will ask malls to reduce opening hours to just one shift due to the removal of workers and the reduction in the flow of consumers.
