As he said at the weekend, incentives should be given to working pensioners to make work more attractive for them.
In addition to the announcements that have been heard all this time by the parties about pensioners, regarding increases but also the correction of the personal difference, Kyriakos Mitsotakis raised another issue concerning pensioners.
As he said at the weekend, incentives should be given to working pensioners to make work more attractive for them.
In the past, the Ministry of Labor had already run a project on how pensioners could be incentivized not to lose 30% of their pension even in the case of part-time or seasonal work. In other words, the aim was the non-horizontal cut of salaries for a few days, per month, work or part-time work.
Under the current regime, a pensioner who is employed either one day a month or the whole month has a 30% cut in the main and supplementary pension.
According to the information, what had been considered by the government until now was the cut of the pension to be proportional to the days of employment. If for example the penalty for one day of work was 1%, if a pensioner worked 15 days they would see a reduction of 15% and 30% if they worked for the whole month.
For example, a pensioner who receives 1,000 euros of main pension and works for 10 days a month, now has a 30% penalty, which means he loses 300 euros.
If there is finally this regulation after the elections, with such a change, the pensioner will lose 10% of his pension, that is, in the case of the example, he will lose 100 euros.
Through such a regulation, i.e. the reduction of the penalty, incentives can be created so that more pensioners not only enter the labor market but also declare their employment (legal work), as with the more proportional penalty they will not have the fear of losing of 30% of the pension, which today usually acts as a disincentive to declare that they are working.
In any case, of course, everything will depend on the next government that will be at the helm of the country.
