by

The presentation of OAED’s programs for 2022, through which 86,000 new jobs will be offered, was the subject of a meeting held this morning at the headquarters of the Organization in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was also briefed by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs. Of Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis and the Governor of OAED, Spyros Protopsaltis, for the results of the programs to stimulate employment in the last two years.

From May 2020 to December 2021, a phase during which the pandemic was in progress, 50,131 new jobs were created thanks to 16 programs implemented by OAED. In 2022, an additional 86,000 new positions will be offered, through 11 young people who will raise almost 590 million euros from the resources of the Recovery Fund and the NSRF, but also through seven ongoing actions.

“I think the evidence speaks for itself: 42,000 jobs were created in the four or so years of the previous government. In just two years, we created 50,000 jobs during the pandemic. And of course the goal is extremely ambitious: to create 86,000 jobs in 2022, with resources that will come on the one hand from the Recovery Fund and on the other hand from the NSRF “, said the Prime Minister.

“These policies are the best proof of the progressive stance of the overall policy of the government in the field of labor”, stressed Kyriakos Mitsotakis, adding that the government’s orientation “proves in practice that the reduction of inequalities and opportunities in the most the weak are our non-negotiable priority. “

The programs for the period 2020-21 moved in three directions: stimulating employment, gaining work experience and supporting entrepreneurship. They were characterized by a high degree of absorption, in contrast to previous years, when it was found that actions with high budgets had an absorption of even 3% to 8%.

In practice, this means that thanks to active employment policies, the development of new programs and the modification of old ones that were relatively inefficient, an increase of 17.9% was achieved within a year and a half compared to the entire four years 2016-2019, despite the effects of the pandemic on the labor market.

On an annual basis, in the midst of the pandemic, OAED succeeds in creating more than 33,400 positions per year, a number more than three times higher than the 10,627 positions that were created on average each year in the previous four years.

“Only one aspect of our policy”

The Prime Minister also stressed that the work of OAED is part of the broader political framework set by the government to enhance employment, address chronic pathogens that harm employees and for a better balance between the personal and professional spheres.

“Let me emphasize that OAED programs are only one aspect of the overall policy that the Ministry of Labor has, overall, in employment issues. “We have talked a lot about the importance of the” First Seal “, that is, about the possibility for a young person in our country to break this vicious circle of not being able to have previous service”, said Mr. Mitsotakis.

Referring to the digital work card, he stressed that this is “a very important reform, which we legislated last year, which will allow us to have a very accurate record, in real time, of the time that employees work, so in order to avoid phenomena which in the past, unfortunately, have negatively stigmatized the labor market, to the detriment of the employees “, while he also stressed the importance of institutionalizing the leave for both parents.

“I attach great importance to all the policies that support working parents and working fathers. Parental leave for both parents is an important initiative in this direction. “And of course the further strengthening of the Labor Inspectorate, so that we avoid the phenomenon of exploitation of workers by employers is also a policy that I believe will help further rationalize the labor market,” said the Prime Minister.

Stimulating work and reducing inequalities

In terms of their effectiveness, the 2020 and 2021 programs were particularly targeted to support the prospects of vocational rehabilitation and reintegration of vulnerable or under-represented groups in the workforce.

Indicatively, more than half of the recruitments took place in areas of the region and outside the two largest urban areas of the country, ie outside Attica and Central Macedonia. More than 50% are women and about four in ten are long-term unemployed. The age group up to 29 years old was ranked first in recruitment.

At the same time, the planning of OAED actions is linked to the central priorities that have been set for the green transformation of the economy and electricity generation, as four of the new programs to be implemented in 2022 are related to the metallurgical transition to lignite areas, such as Western Macedonia. .

“I also want to emphasize the fact that these programs have a goal which is not only age but also geographical”, noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “We know that we must offer new opportunities to the workers and the unemployed in the region, as we will embark on a significant transition to the post-colonial era,” he added.

K. Hatzidakis: “Support for the weak and equal opportunities for all” *

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, stressed that the OAED programs gave strong support to employment in the midst of a pandemic, thanks to which 50,000 new jobs were created from May 2020 to December 2021, a number that exceeds the number of jobs created. throughout the four years 2016-2019 (42,507 positions).

Mr. Hatzidakis underlined that the support will not only continue, but will be intensified this year, as in 2022 86,000 new jobs will be created with funding from the Recovery Fund and the NSRF, totaling 587 million euros.

He then referred to the other initiatives of the Ministry of Labor for the further reduction of unemployment, making special mention of the new program “First Seal” (which promotes the integration for the first time in the labor market of young people aged 18-29) and the expansion – with another 50,000 new jobs – the successful program of 100,000 new jobs.

“The common umbrella of all the actions we implement is the support of the weak and equal opportunities for all, with the aim of
