Caixa has already released the FGTS withdrawal due to calamity for 15 municipalities in Bahia and Minas Gerais due to the heavy rains that hit the states since the end of last year.
Residents of affected areas can request the redemption until March 15 through the FGTS application or at a Caixa branch. The worker cannot have withdrawn for the same reason in the last 12 months. The maximum amount for withdrawal is R$ 6,220.
In Minas Gerais, the rains have already caused the death of at least 25 people and the closure of more than a hundred roads. The state has 374 municipalities in an emergency situation. According to the Minas Gerais government, more than 26,000 people are homeless and 4,000 are left homeless.
In Bahia, 175 municipalities declared a state of emergency. The Bahian government reports 26 dead, 532 injured, two people missing, more than 27,000 homeless and nearly 60,000 displaced from their homes.
